SoYoung Lee

Director of Weekday Preschool

SoYoung Lee grew up in Seoul, Korea and graduated from Ewha Woman’s University with B.A in Christian Studies & M.A in Christian Education. She is also a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX with M.A. in Christian Education, concentration in Childhood Education. Her calling and passion is to set before each child the “Light of the Word”-who is Jesus-the only one who can save them, guide them, and keep them confident and sure, both now and forever. She joined First Baptist Duluth this summer 2014 and loves to serve the Lord and reach out people in both church and weekday preschool.

SoYoung and her husband K.J. are raising two daughters, Claire and Caitlyne. She enjoys playing piano for her daughters as they play their cello and violin, spending time with her family& friends, organizing, reading, and scrapbooking.

Angie Lancaster

Assistant Director of Weekday Preschool

I’m beginning my 10th year at FBCD Preschool serving as Associate Director this year. Previously, I have taught in the 2’s, 3’s and 4’s as well as 1st -8th grade. My husband and I have been married 32 years and have 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren. I have a BS degree in Elementary Education and a Masters’ degree in Guidance and Counseling. We’ve lived in Duluth, and been members at FBCD, for over 17 years and love this area!

Rhonda Acuff

I was born in Wichita, Kansas and lived in Kansas, Utah, Washington, Nebraska, and Minnesota before moving to North Carolina at the age of 15.
I married my high school sweetheart. We celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary in August.
We have 3 grown and married children and 5 grandchildren. They all live in Charlotte, North Carolina. We moved to Georgia in 2007 from Charlotte for a new job opportunity for my husband.
I enjoy spending time with family, reading, and cooking.
I love teaching toddlers and watching them explore and learn about the world God created.

Lauren Allen

4's Lead Teacher

Lauren Allen grew up in Grayson, Georgia and graduated with an Early Childhood degree from the University of Georgia. She taught third grade in Gwinnett County for six years before coming to teach at First Baptist Duluth Preschool. She lives in Lawrenceville with her husband and is a member of 12 Stone Church. Outside of teaching, Lauren enjoys the beach, spending time with family & friends, reading, being a small group leader, and cheering for her husband’s Peachtree Ridge High School football team!

Lily Chou

3's Assistant Teacher

My name is Lily Chou. I had my BA in computer science and alsowas a certified teacher in Taiwan. I had six years of teaching experience in elementary school there. My family moved to the US in 2004 and live in Norcross. Since 2010, I am a Chinese teacher in Atlanta Chinese Christian Church.   I have two wonderful kids. Ning-Ning, she is 13 years old. Chi-Chi, he is 11 years old. Both they are big fans of LEGO. My husband, Wei Jao, had his PhD in astronomy from Georgia State University and works there since. He is a frequent traveler to Chile to use telescopes there. My husband and I love baseball with great passion. We are die-hard Atlanta Braves fans.

Cindy Chu

Older 2's Young 3's Assistant Teacher

My name is Cindy Chu and I am the assistant teacher in the classroom. This is my 2nd year at FBCD and I enjoy working here! I was born in Taiwan and moved to Atlanta in 1992 when I was 13 years old.  I attended Sweetwater Middle School, Berkmar High School, and studied Finance at Georgia State University.  Since 1992, I have been living in Georgia.  I have lived in Lawrenceville, Alpharetta, and Duluth.  Finally, we build our family here in Duluth.  My husband, William, is from Indonesia and we have 2 children, Gabby and Josh.  Gabby is 10 years old and Josh is 6 years old.  They both attend Chinese school at CCS on Saturdays, and take piano lessons.  Both Gabby and Josh attended FBCD and we loved it so much that I started as a substitute teacher two years ago and became an assistant teacher last year.  I also work in the office on Mondays and Fridays, so you will see me greet you as you walk into the building.

Ria Cole

Hi, My name is Adrialyn Cole! I attended two major universities in the Philippines and earned my degree in Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy and units in Masters of Arts in Special Education. My extensive work history includes Preschool Special Education Teacher and School Physical Therapist in my home country. I was employed by Louisiana Public School System year 2009 and was the Self-contained and Resource Special Education Teacher.  When I got married, I moved in Georgia and absolutely love living here! I ‘am glad to be part of FBCD weekday preschool and I look forward to bringing my skills, knowledge and experienced to benefit your child’s growth and development!  Proverbs 22:6 King James Version (KJV) “ Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Christina Coy

My name is Christina and this is my first year teaching at FBCD Preschool. I am originally from Washington state, spent ten years in Massachusetts and have been living in Georgia since 2010. I have been married since 2005 and we have one son who is currently attending FBCD Preschool. I can’t wait to meet all the children this year!

Ana Ehlenbeck

2's (M~W) assistant teacher

Ana grew up in Queretaro, Mexico, later moving to the United States and becoming a citizen in 1993. She graduated from the Bachelors School of Queretaro with an Accounting major. She later completed a nursing assistant training program in Clovis, New Mexico. Prior to moving to the Atlanta area in 2010 after her husband’s retirement from the Air Force, Ana lived in Alabama, Virginia, New Mexico, Nevada and Illinois. She has taught and cared for children for many years, including serving as a substitute teacher in Wetumpka, Alabama, Yorktown, Virginia and Clovis, New Mexico, and caring for children at her churches in Clovis, North Las Vegas and Duluth. She has also done private child care and worked at Sunshine House in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Her church community service activities have included teaching Spanish and assisting with Vacation Bible School, girls youth groups, mission trips and food pantries. Ana loves teaching children about God and life, caring for them and helping them develop values and character.

Ana and her husband Steve have three adult children and four grandchildren. She loves to travel, enjoy outdoor activities and spend time with her family and friends.

I recently joined the staff at First Baptist Duluth. I will work as a Teacher Assistant with MDO as well as the young two year old class. Having worked in the area of child development for more than thirty years. I still get excited to see how God will use me here at FDB. My previous experiences include government, private sector. I once owned and operated a home based daycare center. My employment decisions no longer hinge merely where I desire to teach, I go where the holyspirit leads. Realizing that if I’m out of place then I wont be as effective in what God has sent me to do.
Married to my wonderful husband and a blessed mother of two amazing daughters, and the Nana of two of the worlds greatest grandsons. Georgia has been our home for close to twenty three years now.When not working I enjoy reading, shopping,travel,tennis and board games with my youngest daughter. I also teach Sunday school at my Church Divine Faith Ministries.

My name is Cathy Howell.  I met Jesus as a child attending a baptist church in Florida. I grew up there and went to college before getting married and moving to Atlanta. Now I have three children and have enjoyed teaching at Duluth First Baptist Preschool for a total of eight years. I believe God has used all the events in my life to lead me to this place, at this time. My favorite verse is Isaiah 40:31 “Those that wait upon the lord shall rise up on wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, walk and not faint.”

May Kennedy

2's Lead Teacher

My name is Myrthau (May) Kennedy. I was born in Miami, Florida on August 2, 1980. My parents are from the island of Haiti. I speak both Haitian Creole and English fluently. I am married with 3 children, Cedric jr (9), Zarayah (7) and Cassius (4). We moved to Duluth, Georgia in 2015. In 1999, I entered the world of preschool where I worked in the toddler’s room at Alpha-Time Children Center as Assistant Teacher and Lead Teacher for 5 years. This is where I received my Child Development Associate Equivalency Credential (CDAE). After stepping away from the child care field I took a different route and entered Corporate America. I worked for American Express for 9 years and earned my Associates and Bachelors in Business Administration. I volunteered for Broward Public Schools and in the Children’s Ministry in my previous church, Mount Bethel Baptist Church.  As of recently, I worked for Gwinnett County Public Schools for the past year and volunteered in the FBCD Sunday School ministry. I am currently enrolled with Capella University working on my Masters in Education/Early Childhood.

Lynn Kinney

Music Lead Teacher

Hello my name is Lynn Kinney, I grew up most of my life in Destin Florida. In 1986 I moved to Georgia with a family I was a nanny for 15 years. When children grew up and moved on I stayed in Georgia. Decided to have a change and worked retail for Parsons for 19 years and then decided that I was ready to get back to what I love most and that’s working with children. I now teach music here and enjoy watching the children explore and learn new songs.

My hobbies are scraping booking, cooking, taking my puppies to the park, working with children and going to see a good movie.

Maggie Law

Maggie grew up in Greenville, SC and graduated with a B.S. in Food Science from Clemson University. After graduating, she moved to Little Rock, AR where she worked as a nutritionist at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital. She lives in Duluth with her husband and young daughter. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, traveling, reading, and spending time with her family. She is so excited to be a MDO teacher and she feels honored for the opportunity to teach and spread love to each of your children.

I am honored to be your child’s teacher this year. I have several years of experience working with preschool children. Prior to teaching  at First Baptist Duluth Preschool 2006 -2013. I taught children as the Playcenter Coordinator at the YMCA in Alpharetta, GA. I love to explore and learn with children and show them the Love of Christ. Our family moved to Georgia in 1999 from Wyoming. I have been married for 22 years and have 2 children: Liam 19, and Kaitlyn 17. I am very excited to be back at First Baptist Duluth Preschool and look forward to a great year.

Janie McNair

My name is Janie McNair, and I have been a part of the FBCD Preschool family as a parent for about 6 years. The staff have loved on my three wonderful kids since my oldest was only 15 months old! My husband, Matt, and I have lived in the Duluth area for about 12 years. This is my second year teaching at the Preschool, after taking a couple of years off with my youngest child, and I am thrilled to be a part of it again! I have a deep love for books, and I have seen the importance of reading to and with our children from an early age. I studied music (piano) and Spanish in college, and I have been sharing my love of music with little ones through choirs, group or individual classes since high school. It is an honor to be a part of the FBCD Preschool staff, to share the love of God with your children through music and books.

Julie Monk

3's Assistant Teacher

Originally from Surabaya, Indonesia Julie has lived in the U.S. since 1999 and resided in Gwinnett County since 2001.   Married for 12 years, Julie is the mother to two children, a 6yr old daughter named Sydney and a 4yr old son named Mason.   Sydney attended FBCD preschool and is now in 1st grade at McKendree Elementary in Lawrenceville.  Mason is currently attending FBCD.  Julie has served as a substitute teacher at FBCD for over 2 years and this year will be serving as an assistant teacher in Mother’s Day out.  Julie and her family are also members of FBCD.  Julie’s sister-in-law, Meagan Monk, is a lead teacher this year for one of the 3yr old classes at FBCD preschool.   Julie has adjusted nicely to life in the South and become a fan of southern food and sports including the Braves, Falcons, Bama and FSU.

Nicole Smetana

My name is Nicole Smetana and I was born and raised in Clearwater, Florida. I have been married to my husband for almost 10 years and we have 3 amazing children, ages 8, 6 and 4. We are a military family and currently live in Duluth where we attend 12 Stone Church. I have several years of experience working with Elementary and Preschool age children. I am beyond blessed for the opportunity to work with your precious little ones and look forward to watching them grow this year.

My name is Rustye Richards and I am married to a wonderful man, Daren.  Together we have three beautiful children, Cameron, Gage and Chandler.  I am currently taking classes at Liberty University to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.  I was born in Kentucky, but I have lived in Duluth, Georgia for almost 11 years.  This is my first year teaching and I am very honored to be a part of First Baptist Church Duluth Weekday Preschool.
